Literacy strategy

I think that the strategy of Read-aloud is extremely effective. Firstly, it allows the students to follow along and actually focus on comprehension of the book, rather than focusing on actually reading the words. Secondly, it is enjoyable for students and can motivate them to want to read. It also models how proper reading should sound. It can be incorporated in all ages. I think I would implement in my 2nd grade classroom. This is the age where they really need to focus on proper comprehension.  It also helps the student know proper pitch, pronunciation of certain words, how to use expression, and more! This article really proves why read-alouds are so important in the classroom.  http://www.ascd.org/publications/newsletters/education-update/jan18/vol60/num01/Why-Every-Class-Needs-Read-Alouds.aspx The following lesson plan incorporates read-alouds in a beneficial way for the students:  https://www.education.com/download/lesson-plan/el-support-lesson-we-read-together...

week 3 assignment 3-running record

I watched the running record video. ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LUr1og9lPWM ) It was extremely well done. The student did not make many reading mistakes. He seems to be quite a fluent reader however, he does not always stop by the commas and periods. He reads just straight on and on....He did a very good job with the comprehension questions and the out of text questions. He showed understanding of what instincts are. He knew what the words mean. He was able to think about exact examples from the story. He was definitely above average in his understanding and his overall reading. He should be tested on a higher level. The lesson plan I created for him has parts of it in which the students need to show deep understanding of the lesson. This student really can be challenged to go higher and to next levels. This lesson also focuses on having expression when reading. I think that the student will enjoy it and have the chance to think deeper. A vety big part of this lesson focuses on ...

week 2

How does this activity engage students who are at different levels of literacy development? The activity is interesting and is motivating for all the students. The topic of hot dogs makes students interested and motivated. It also helps that it is a rhyme. Also, the students are all sitting on the rug together reading out loud to get everyone involved.  During her explicit phonics lesson, how does Ms. Perez support students’ problem-solving skills? She calls on all different students to answer and she gives a lot of positive reinforcement. She makes it interesting and exciting! She guides each student and gives hints and sounds to help blend and sound out sounds.  Based on what you saw in the video, what are the different ways that shared reading can be used to promote literacy? The students are promoted to share their answers. Also, they enjoy when they are all sitting and reading out loud. Even if one student can not sound out the word, she will hear it from her peers and...
